DOH to assess Catanduanes areas with perennial diarrhea outbreak

LEGAZPI CITY (4-Feb-2013/PNA) – Health Assistant Secretary Dr. Eric Tayag arrived in this city Monday afternoon to lead local health officials in conducting assessment of areas with perennial diarrhea outbreak in Catanduanes.

Tayag, who is also the chief of the Department of Health’s (DOH) National Epidemiology Center (NEC), met with the local media in a press conference at the DOH regional office here. The DOH official will leave for Catanduanes via the ferry terminal in Tabaco City Tuesday morning, said Jimbo Guerrero, DOH regional spokesperson.

The main objective of Tayag’s visit is to make a final assessment of areas that perennially experience an outbreak of dirrhea for NEC to lay out solutions, in collaboration with concerned local government units (LGUs) and other national agencies.

The recent outbreak of chikungunya cases in Tabaco City and other areas in the region is among the priorities of the DOH official’s visit.

Last week, Health Secretary Enrique Ona was also in this city for the assessment of the various government hospitals in the region and revealed the good news to Philippine Health Insurance Cop. beneficiaries about the efficient and fast transaction in accredited hospitals and other health facilities nationwide that they will be accommodated.
