A correspondent of a publication based in Cagayan de Oro City has reported being harassed by a town vice mayor while he was covering a meeting of the town’s excise tax board Monday (Jan. 28) afternoon.
Gold Star Daily correspondent Angelito Rulona, 44, said he identified himself as a journalist and signed on a log book prior to entering the office of Alubijid, Misamis Oriental mayor Alvin Giovanni Labis, where the meeting was to be held.
Rulona said when incumbent vice mayor Emmanuel Jamis noticed him taking video footages of the board meeting, Jamis ordered him out.
Jamis is seeking reelection under Liberal Party.
Rulona said he properly identified himself and explained what he was doing but Jamis forcibly dragged him from the room and threw his bag outside.
“Unsa man, mosukol ka nako? (So what do you want? A fight?),” Rulona qouted Jamis as saying.
The Gold Star Daily correspondent said he has reported the matter to his editor-in-chief, Hernie Gomez, and said he plans to file appropriate charges against Jamis.
Rulona has also reported the incident to Inspector Arnold Gaabucayan of the Alubijid Municipal Police Station.
