LEGAZPI CITY (9-Jan-2013/PNA) – Barely few days before the implementation of the total gun ban of the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) in connection with the upcoming May polls, a top Philippine National Police (PNP)official in Bicol told gun owners to surrender their unlicensed firearms.
Renato Bataller, Bicol regional police spokesman, said their office will strictly set up massive police checkpoints across the region starting Jan. 13.
According to Bataller, there are 10,000 loose firearms in Bicol as of presstime.
“Starting Jan. 13, we will strictly implement the total gun ban throughout Bicol, so we’re informing gun owners to surrender their unregistered weapons before the COMELEC ban takes effect,” he said.
COMELEC Resolution 9385 reminds gun owners to voluntary surrender their unregistered weapons at the PNP office before the total gun ban takes effect on Jan. 13. (PNA)
