MANILA (16-Dec-2012/PNA) – Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire knocked out Mexican Jorge Arce in the third round on Sunday to retain his World Boxing Organization super-bantamweight title at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas, USA.

Donaire lived up to his promise to avenge the loss of Filipino boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao to Mexican Juan Manuel Marquez, scoring three knockdowns, including a powerful left hook that ended the fight at 2:59 of the third round.

It was the same time that Marquez knocked out Pacquiao in the sixth round a week ago in their fourth encounter at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Donaire scored the first knockdown in the second round of their 12-round title fight, prompting the Mexican warrior to brawl in the third round.

The Filipino Flash, however, was unperturbed and tagged Arce with a powerful right hand, followed by a solid left uppercut that sent the Mexican to the canvas anew, with 13 seconds left in the third.

Arce was able to get up to his feet again but could not escape the onslaught of the Filipino champion and put Arce down again with one second left in the third round.

It was the fourth win by Donaire this year as he improved his ring record to 32-1 with 21 via stoppages while Arce dropped at 67-7-2 record.

After the fight, Arce announced his retirement while Donaire said he might move up from 122 pounds to 126 pounds next year. (PNA)
