SORSOGON CITY (BicolToday.com/11-Dec-2012) – The maintenance crew of the Sorsogon City Water District recently finished repairing defective waterlines to minimize water wastage in its service area according to Andy Fercia maintenance head of the water utility.

Referring to the mainline along the diversion road in Barangay Cabid-an here, it was found out that the five inches crack in the main pipe line might be caused by the constant pounding of the section by heavy duty motor vehicles that accessed the area. The water pressure released by the pumping station near the sector put heavy pressure on the pipes, likewise adding pressure to it, revealed the report of Fercia.

The maintenance division is readying plans and proposals to possibly relocate the water mainline to avoid leakage along the diversion road.

Meanwhile, the extension of water lines in Sitio Oraroy of Barangay Penafrancia in the western part of the city is on-going. The works will cover two hundred fifty meters when completed. A 63 millimeter in diameter HDPE pipe will be installed along the line.

The project was budgeted for ninety thousand pesos and by the representation of the Penafrancia Barangay Council in its efforts to expand the service area of the water district in their barangay. Sitio Oraroy residents will be another of the numerous service areas of the water firm.

The water district in its preventive maintenance conducted flushing in their service areas to maintain a safe and potable drinking water for their consumers, this was reported by Maeflor Jumamil, media relations head of the SCWD.

In her report, maintenance of service areas is not limited to plugging leaks, it covers cleaning of water meters and its connections especially on low laying areas which is prone to flooding. In this way, the report added if there is a need to replace water filters it can be done simultaneously with the repair and maintenance works.

“Our water district is continuously doing its best efforts to serve its consumers. Recently it constructed blow-off points in Bacon District, to efficiently release water stocks in the pipelines and during flushing operation they use air compressors for total clean-out of water lines”, the media office reports.
