MANILA (9-Dec-2012/PNA) – Mexican fighter Juan Manuel Marquez on Sunday knocked out unconscious for a minute eighth time division world boxing champion Manny Pacquiao in the sixth round in their fourth ring encounter before a sellout crowd at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas.

The much-publicized Pacquiao-Marquez bout was beamed live on television worldwide.

Pacquiao was pummeling a bloodied Marquez in the last dying seconds of the 6th round when suddenly the witty Mexican boxer countered a thunderous right that caught the Filipino fighter on the face, knocking Pacquiao flat cold on his belly that the referee did not bother to count.

The ring announcer Michael Buffer said the fight ended at two minutes 59 seconds of the sixth round, just a second shy before the round ended.

Pacquiao did not move for about a minute as the ring’s doctor revived the Filipino boxer.

A ring official immediately took Pacquiao’s mouthpiece as the Filipino legend regained consciousness.

Pacquiao was ahead in points in the first and second round until the third when he was floored when Marquez caught him in the chin with a wicked right straight.

Pacquiao got up as the referee counted the mandatory eight count.

In the fourth round, Pacquiao again controlled the tempo, hitting Marquez with combinations.

Apparently out to avenge his knock down in the third round, Pacquiao put more pressure on his Mexican opponent, dominating the round when suddenly he caught Marquez with a powerful left hook that sent Marquez down as the referee counted the eight count before the two boxing legends continued to exchange punches.

It was a clear round for Pacquiao.

As the sixth round opened, Pacquiao immediately swarmed on Marquez with a series of left, right combinations as Marquez retreated to a corner.

Pacquiao continued his assault when suddenly, Marquez threw a hard right, catching Pacquiao on the chin.

The Filipino boxer floored on all fours, face down on the canvas, unconscious that the referee did not bother to count.

Under the rule, a boxer knocked down before a round ended cannot be saved by the bell.

The crowd was surprised at the sudden ending of the fight of the decade.

Earlier, Pacquiao and Marquez three times since 2004 with the first a draw and the second and third with Pacquiao winning.

Marquez insisted that he won the three previous fights.(PNA)
