Radio reporter shot dead in Cabanatuan

MANILA (8-nOV-2012) – An unidentified man shot and killed a radio reporter-broadcaster in Cabanatuan City Thursday (Nov. 8) morning.

Julius Cauzo, 51, reporter-anchor for station dwJJ, was driving his motorcycle with plate number 9303X along Flower Lane St., Barangay (village) Aduas at 8:38 a.m., when the gunman, also riding a motorcycle, drove behind him and fired shots at him, said Cabanatuan City police Chief Supt. Eli Depra. The gunman immediately fled.

Station dwJJ is reportedly owned by City Mayor Jay Vergara.

Cauzo sustained three gunshot wounds in the chest. He was rushed to the Nueva Ecija Good Samaritan Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police have yet to determine if the killing is work-related. If work-related, Cauzo would be the 154th victim of media killings in the line of duty since 1986, the 14th under Pres. Benigno Aquino III’s watch, and the 5th in 2012.
