4,000 passengers stranded in Bicol seaports

LEGAZPI CITY (26-Oct-2012/PNA) – The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) here reported that at least 4,309 passengers were stranded in different sea ports of Bicol region due to severe weather condition spawned by tropical storm “Ofel.”

OCD and Regional Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council chairman Raffy Alejandro said as of 6:30 a.m. Thursday, the stranded passengers are in the sea ports of Matnog, Bulan, Pilar all of Sorsogon and Tabaco City in Albay.

He said a total of 1,600 passengers were stranded in Matnog sea port since Wednesday.

According to Alejandro, the number of stranded passengers is expected to increase before noon with the prevailing bad weather condition.

“The RDRRMC issued an advisory to all local government units throughout the province to strictly monitor their respective areas, particularly those in the coastal barangays,” Alejandro said. (PNA)
