LEGAZPI CITY (13-Oct-2012/PNA) – A police major and his policeman driver were seriously wounded in an ambush staged by unidentified armed men along the highway in Barangay Sagrada, Iriga City Tuesday, reports reaching Camp Gen. Simeon Ola here revealed.
Wounded were Chief Supt. Bernardo Arroyo and PO 3 Zandro Iriola both members of the Iriga City police. They were on board a police patrol car with registration plate SHE 661 on the way to the adjacent Barangay Antipolo to reinforce fellow policemen who flagged down a jeep load of suspected illegal logs.
Upon reaching Sagrada around 3:25 p.m., the car was fired upon by unknown suspects hitting both Arroyo and Iriola. Iriola, although wounded, was able to maneuver away from the line of fire and drove to safety.
The victims were brought to the Bicol Medical Center in Naga City.
Elements from the Philippine Army immediately conducted check points along roads sections to and from Iriga City immediately after the news of the ambush broke out, the report added. (PNA)
