Speaker Belmonte appoints Rep. Ramos caretaker of Sorsogon 1st Legislative District

SORSOGON CITY (BicolToday.com/11-Sept-2012) – Sorsogon’s 1st District constituency shall continue to be represented in legislative governance, despite the passing away of Representative Salvador Escudero lll.

House Speaker Feliciano Belmonte Jr. named Sorsogon Rep. Deogracias B. Ramos Jr as legislative liaison officer of the First District of Sorsogon following the vacancy left by the late Congressman Escudero III.

“In the interest of the people of the 1st District of Sorsogon, I hereby designate the Honorable Deogracias B. Ramos, Jr as Legislative Liaison Officer of the 1st District of Sorsogon effective immediately,” Speaker Belmonte directed in a special order dated September 3, 2012.

Last August 13, Rep. Escudero died after battling cancer for two years.

“It is akin to the assignment of special duties to the member. Among the duties is the continuation of the programs following the death of a member,” Annalou Nachura, House of Representatives Legal Affairs Department Executive Director, explained.

Rep. Ramos, a first-term congressman, represents one of the two districts in Sorsogon. The second district consists of Gubat, Barcelona, Bulan, Bulusan, Irosin, Santa Magdalena, Matnog, Juban and Prieto Diaz.

He previously served as mayor of Gubat, a second-class municipality in Sorsogon, for six (6) three-year terms. Rep. Ramos currently serves as vice-chair of the Committee on Natural Resources, Committee on Rural Development and Committee on Bicol Recovery and Economic Development.

The Sorsogon lawmaker has received numerous national awards during his time as mayor, and he played a pivotal role in the establishment of the Bicol University – Gubat Campus, thus reflecting his commitment to Agriculture, Education, Health, Nutrition, and Public Service. [BicolToday.com]
