SAN JOSE, Camarines Sur (BicolToday.com/17-May-12) – Unmindful of few persons wanting to disqualify them from voting in this town, showbiz celebrities Aga Muhlach and Charlene Gonzales over the week made the rounds here on foot to see the ongoing fiesta activities which will reach its climactic event on May 19.
In some occasions, the couple were accompanied by San Jose Mayor Antonio B. Chavez going the rounds in San Jose. They are already “compadres” after sealing the social pact of serving as joint sponsors in the town’s mass wedding in civil ceremony of 216 unwed couples last February. In March, they also served as “godfathers” to mass baptism of 300 babies from the town’s 29 barangays, making the babies’ parents their “compadres.”
Celebrating the feast of Saint Joseph, which is the town’s patron saint, this week’s fiesta celebrations include various fun-filled activities, from the usual parade, motorcade, beauty contests, talent shows, floats, fireworks, and live bands.
Mayor Chavez stands confident the town fiesta shall be a success in promoting local tourism owing to the presence of Aga Muhlach and Charlene Gonzales who have been making the rounds in the town proper.
This town is one of Camarines Sur’s top rice granaries, with a highly prosperous agriculture economy and fishing industry. It is also known for its malusugi, or sword fish. The town is scenic, with vast rice fields stretching outwards, serving as background drop are the mountain ranges of the Caramoan Peninsula. Its coastal barangay Sabang is the gateway to various tourist destinations in Caramoan – Guta Beach, Aguirangan Island, and Lahoy Island, known for their white sand beaches.
“Aga and Charlene always come home nowadays after finishing their works and tight schedules in Manila,” said an aide, referring to the Muhlach couple’s new home in San Jose, now almost completely renovated and undergoing finishing works. “We avoid publicity, there is peace and tranquility here.”
The showbiz couple have been fiesta-hopping in several places upon invitation by newly-met friends. Fiestas are Bicol socio-cultural traditions which are usually held in the months of March until July. Fiestas are even celebrated down at the barangay and sitio level. [BicolToday.com]
