NAGA CITY (BicolToday.com/22-April-2012) – Eleven (11) Bicol youth leaders are among the 170 delegates from all over the country who will attend the 9th National Youth Parliament on May 2 – 6, 2012, to be held in Avenue Plaza Hotel, Naga City.
The 11 youth delegates who will represent the Bicol Region are: Jeross Romano Aguilar; Ronnel Joseph Tracena Competente; Jackie John Borbe Corral; Christine Carol Baloro Falabi; Maria Vianney Librando Legacion; Paul Francis Nacional Legarde; Carena Caldona Marte; Ludel Maiello Facistol Mier; Janellee Escanilla Pura; Danilo Cortes Roquid Jr.; and Patrixia Sherly de Lumban Santos.
Anchored on the theme, “Revolutionizing Youth Development”, the youth parliament is designed to gather youth leaders and to empower them to have a stake in innovating solutions to pressing issues.
Commissioner Gio Tingzon of the National Youth Commission (NYC), organizer of the event, said the youth leaders will craft policy proposals on education, health, employment and entrepreneurship, environment and climate change adaptation, and youth participation in civil society.
Pol Maleniza II, NYC executive director and chief operating officer, said the 11 Bicol youth leaders were chosen from more than 100 applicants in the region and almost a month of screening by a multi-sectoral panel composed of NYC, former NYC delegates and its partner agencies.
Maleniza, himself a Bicolano, said they are expected to be the voice and advocate of the Bicol youth. “I expect them to gain valuable insights and network with experts and peers which will aid in, and revolutionize youth development efforts of the region,” he said during the press briefing on Wednesday.
