Twin pawnshop robbery embarrassed cops

TIGAON, Camarines Sur ( – Embarrassed police force here face a blank wall over the twin robberies of two pawnshops Monday that happened some 25 meters away from a well-manned police outpost.

The robberies were discovered by store helpers Monday morning when they opened shops and discovered that assorted pieces of jewelry and cash were missing from their stores. The two pawnshops, Tigaon Pawnshop and All Star Pawnshop were housed in a commercial apartment building, adjoined by a cement wall.

The two pawnshop owners as of Wednesday did not disclose the actual amount of the items stolen, but non-police sources said some Php5 million worth of jewelries and cash were carted by the robbers.

Police investigators led by Tigaon Acting Police Chief Tyrone Dotimas discovered the robbers bore a hole and forcibly opened the locks at the back of the building on Sunday night. According to non-police sources, the robbers used acetylene torches to cut through the steel doors and safe where the valuable items were safely hidden. But, official police blotter report did not mention any acetylene torches that were used by the robbers.

Police on Wednesday avoided talking to the media and refused to give details on the progress of the investigation. No suspects were identified nor arrests made.
