Seven soldiers in Masbate accused of gang rape

LEGAZPI CITY – Seven soldiers under the Army’s 9th Infantry Brigade in Aroroy, Masbate are accused of raping a 21-year-old woman inside the military camp, said a report sent to Camp Simeon Ola here.

The gang rape started at 7:00 p.m. inside the camp of Bravo Company of the Army 9th IB at Puro village in Aroroy according to the complaint of Marvie Villaflores, 21, of Usab village, Aroroy.

In her complaint to women’s desk office of Aroroy PNP, Villaflores said she was molested by a certain Gilbert Quinito alias “Jeric” and six other unidentified members of the Philippine Army assigned at Bravo Company.

Army Major Angelo Guzman told The Manila Times that the suspects are now confined at military camp and disarmed.

“These are individual actions not acceptable by our organization but due process will also be observed. The 9th Infantry Division shall cooperate to any investigation to be made by the PNP. We do not tolerate any wrongdoings of our soldiers. As soldiers, they are expected to possess and display a high degree of ethics, decency and integrity,” Guzman told The Manila Times.

Army Lt. Col. Julian Pacatan, commanding officer of the Army’s 9th IB based in Masbate said that suspect Cpl. Gilbert Quinito was disarmed and under custody.

“He was already disarmed and confined under the custody of his company commander. Other soldiers allegedly involved are also disarmed and confined and the 9th Infantry Battalion and are subject for thorough investigation,” Guzman said. Re-posted from The Manila Times 02-07-12
