SORSOGON CITY (BicolToday.com/3 Jan 2011)- A night of fun ended in a tragedy for three friends, Archie Jeremias, Jose ‘Pilac” de la Cruz, Jr. and Herminio de la Peña who were victimized by hit and run December 29 last year, at press time the local PNP is still clueless as to the identity of the vehicle.

The trio are in their early thirties and only de la Cruz is a family man who is a contractual employee of the provincial government here same with Jeremias who is attached to the office of the governor. De la Peña drives a trike for a living.

Archie, a dive master instructor and teaches part time at two of the local colleges here was declared dead on arrival by attending physicians at Dr. Fernando B. Duran Sr. Memorial Hospital while ‘Pilac’ suffered contusions, bruisies and neck injury now under observations at the said hospital. De la Peña succumbed to his injuries around twelve noon today, five days after the tragic accident.

The incident happened at around two o’clock in the morning while the trio waits the arrival of the brother of Archie and passing the time with bottles of beer about fifty meters from the corner of the Barangay Road. They were sitting in the right side of the concrete railing not knowing that it will be the last time that they will be together.

As narrated by ‘Pilac’, they were hit at the back while walking towards a close billiard hall and do not have an inkling what hit them.

At about that time, residents near the accident site heard certain conversations and next was a loud thud, then silence. They came to know about it when a tricycle driver bound to the city proper noticed three sprawled bloodied men in the highway who notified nearby residence, in turn summoned the barangay officials and the police.

Almost an hour as estimated by nearby residents before the accident was reported to authorities. It was theorized that Archie was hit first by the wayward vehicle. Jeremias autopsy revealed cranial injuries with fractures in the right arm, upper right torso and smash cheek bone. De la Peña head injury was critical which ultimately took his life.

At the scene of the accident, investigators were not able to identify skid mark though they notice a double tire skid, they failed to recover fragments of the vehicle parts which might give a clue as to the color or possible make errant vehicle.
Speculations as to the identity of the vehicle are now being looked at by the police. They are also looking at the angle that the driver is intoxicated and could have momentarily sleep on the wheels causing the fatal accident, they are now on the lookout of any vehicle who might have a dented fender or bumper.

Friends and relatives of the victims are launching a search for the wayward vehicle in cooperation with authorities.

The brother of Archie, Joey Jeremias, is still in disbelief about the loss. He revealed that the victim is the sporty type in their family, he being an accomplishment scuba diver, a rescue volunteer, a judo instructor.

Archie engages in rappelling, did mountain climbing. Such loss is incomprehensible for him. He is appealing for the driver of the vehicle to surrender and to the public if ever they have any information to help resolve the crime. may forward it to authorities while the grieving family of Dondon de la Peña calls for help for the loss is to much to bear on them, they are likewise urging the authorities for a thorough investigation fearing that the incident might be one of those included in the cold case files.
