PILI, Camarines Sur – Geoff Tan of Singapore shared his business secrets on how he became a top player in the media industry by changing the game which rendered his rivals irrelevant.

From an “only-print” media business by being publisher of Singapore’s Business Times and Singapore Strait, Tan has ventured into multi-media and cross-media investments that made his company, Singapore Press Holdings, as his country’s multi-media powerhouse.

“You must not compete with your rivals, you must make your rivals irrelevant,” Tan told delegates of the Philippine Advertising Congress held in Provincial Capitol complex, Pili, Camarines Sur on November 18.

From his “only-print” publishing business, Tan has harnessed digital communication technologies to his advantage. Today, his Singapore Press Holdings has profitable investments in mobile communications, data-base, radio broadcasts, advertising and promotions, and sales consultancy.

Tan understands that the use of modern digital communication technologies and the Net, which can be utilized as cross-media shall serve as useful gadgets in changing the games in the media playing field.
