SORSOGON CITY – The motherly confidence of Assistant Director Irma Valiente of DOLE Region V is a plus in her concern at the regional labor department for workers rights had become an issue that are monitored by social interest groups.

Valiente was confident that their department personnel in Sorsogon will take workers issues direct to management aiming for an even application of labor laws. Such assurance was given during an interview by this writer at the jobs fair sponsored by the Public Employment Service Office of Sorsogon province, Tuesday last.

Though they have to see the interest of investors to jumpstart special employment opportunities in the region, the gestures of support for the workers right is evident in an assured tone from her.

The director, expounding the need to balance the interest of businesses in contracting the services of workers particularly in the construction industry emphasized that a worker rights, benefits must be accorded to daily wage earners.

There was a tinge of bitterness in her tone for their agency is also hard pressed to co-partner with employers yet she was more in implementing the international mandate of labor. Harmonizing a worker/employer relation is a class act itself for workers interest oftentimes is anathema to employer profits.

Director Valiente was hoping that there will be applicants who will be hired on the spot (HOTS) during the job fair and commended the efforts of her provincial field officers for their resiliency in acting upon the complaints of workers in the province.
