MANILA – Storm “Pedring” has further strengthened Sunday afternoon, with Catanduanes now placed under storm signal number 2, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

More provinces were also placed under storm signal number 1 and these are Camarines Sur, Camarines Norte, Albay, Burias Island, Sorsogon, Quezon, Polillo Island and Aurora.

In its 5 p.m. bulletin, Pagasa said Pedring has further intensified and has accelerated, heading west toward the Isabela-Aurora area. It was last tracked at 460 kilometers east northeast of Virac, Catanduanes with maximum sustained winds of 105 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 135 kph.

Residents in areas with storm signals are warned against possible flashfloods and landslides as Pedring is expected to bring heavy rains.

Pedring is expected to be 190 kilometers east of Baler, Aurora on Monday afternoon and 140 kilometers west northwest of Sinait, Ilocos Sur on Tuesday afternoon.
