LEGAZPI CITY – A Philippine Army soldier was killed and three others were wounded when their service vehicle hit a landmine planted by suspected New People’s Army (NPA) rebels along the road in Barangay Maingaran, Masbate City on Sunday.
A police report received at the Philippine National Police (PNP) regional command in this city identified the fatality as Private First Class Mariel Semolava and those wounded as PFCs Henry Maisog, Ryan Brayuga and Jumar Erediano.
Supt. Wilson Asueta, PNP Bicol spokesman, said the soldiers from the Army’s 9th Infantry Battalion were on board their KM250 service on their way to the Masbate market when the incident took place.
Asueta said the victims were rushed to the Masbate Doctors Hospital. (PNA)
