7 dead; 107,938 families evacuated as ‘Juaning’ lashes Albay

LEGAZPI CITY – At least seven people were reported dead in Albay province due to the continuing onslaught of tropical storm Juaning.

Governor Joey Salceda reported on Tuesday here that three children were victims of a landslide in Barangay Gabon, Polangui town after their houses were buried and crushed along with fallen trees. Two victims were also reported in Pioduran after their house was crushed by fallen coconut trees. Salceda said retrieval operations is still ongoing.

Salceda said one person was electrocuted in Tiwi town, while a man and his motorcycle was washed away by rampaging floodwaters in Daraga town.

Salceda said three fishermen were also reported missing in Rapu-Rapu, an island town in Albay.

Salceda said 107,938 families were already evacuated in Albay.

These families were affected by floods – 56,384; landslide-13,322; lahar-5,348; and strong winds (houses were destroyed)-32,884 families.

The entire province was affected with reports of massive floods, landslides, and many homes destroyed.

Salceda said most of these affected families temporarily evacuated to the nearest and safer grounds, residences, barangay halls, chapels or day care centers. (PNA)
