Man drowns, first victim of ‘Chedeng’ in Bicol

LEGAZPI CITY – A man who drowned was fished out by villagers at the coastal waters of Barangay Penafrancia, Gigmoto town in Catanduanes on Thursday as Typhoon Chedeng hovers over Bicol, an officer of the Philippine National Police (PNP) said.

The fatality was identified as Jaime Torillos, 79, married and a resident of Barangay Biong, Gigmoto town.

Police Senior Inspector Ayn Natuel said the victim was found by villagers floating 20 meters off the shorelines of Barangay Penafrancia early Wednesday morning.

Natuel, quoting investigation report, said the victim on board his banca went fishing despite the bad weather brewing at the time.

Villagers rushed the victim to the Gigmoto District Hospital but was declared dead by attending physicians. (PNA)
