LEGAZPI CITY – After eluding arrest for over a decade, the prime suspect in the killing of a Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) regional director in Pili, Camarines Sur fell into the hands of authorities on Monday, the Philippine National Police Crime Investigation and Detection Grou p (PNP-CIDG) said Tuesday.
Arrested by CIDG operatives was Juanito Ona, alias Totoy, 41, a native of Barangay Colacling in Lupi, Camarines Sur. He is the prime suspect in the killing of DPWH regional director Engr. Nestor Tria, Sr. at the Naga Airport in Pili, Camarines Sur on May 22, 1998.
PNP records reveal that the suspect is included in the list of most wanted persons in Camarines Sur and is facing murder and robbery charges.
Police Senior Supt. Edwin Jocos, CIDG Bicol chief, in a radio interview said Ona was tagged by witnesses as the one who shot Tria.
Jocos said the suspect did not resist when arrested on Monday while playing bingo at the SM Mall in Naga.
Jocos said the suspect is under investigation at the CIDG detention center in Naga City to determine the motive and identify the mastermind behind the killing. (PNA)
