Chiz disappointed over 2011 budget

SORSOGON CITY – The Bicolano senator expressed disappointment over the P1.645 trillion budget for 2011, saying that this will not address the economic crisis the country for the next year as promised by Aquino administration.

Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero is an ally of the administration said that he abstain during the passage of 2011 budget because it will not answer the needs of the people.

He stressed that the conditional cash transfer program budget under the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) amounting to P17 billion pesos will only benefited one million indigent and not enough to cope up the high number of poor families in the country.

According the research group IBON Foundation, government’s latest labor force survey pegs unemployment at 2.80 million in October 2010, slightly higher than the 2.72 million reported in the same period last year. However these data could place the number of unemployed at 4.16 million instead.

Escudero give emphasis to agriculture sector, wherein the administration will not meet the three year target to be rice independent due to lack of support to the farmers. He said that the government spend P100,000 for every hectares of riceland and the local farmers only earns P20,000. The senator said that it is wise for the administration to give P40,000 every farmer and the government saves P60,000 pesos.

Escudero said that it is only a matter of pride of Filipinos for being rice exporting country during the Marcos era. He cite Hongkong and Singapore were no single square meter of rice land but they are more progressive than the Philippines.
