LEGAZPI CITY (BicolToday.com/21-July-2012) – Meek as a lamb, the icon of humility Juan Miguel Zubiri, who gave up his senatorial post following elections scandal, said that he has done everything to reconcile with Sen. Koko Pimentel, and still willing to join him for the sake of Mindanao.
“Gusto ko pa rin siyang makasama, ginawa ko na ang lahat, sana’y ‘wag syang mag tanim ng galit sa akin, hindi magandang tingnan’”, Migz, as he is fondly called, sincerely told local media in a press conference held at the airport canteen here after he disembarked at 7:00 AM Saturday flight from Manila.
Instead of Migz, newsmen called him “Meek” for showing unassuming nature, who, despite his hectic schedules, still took his time out for souvenir photo opportunities with a number of plane passengers bound for Manila including airport by-standers.
“Maganda sana kung kami (referring to Pimentel) ay magtulungan, marami kaming magagawa para sa Mindanao”, Zubiri enthused. According to him, he was invited by the local government of Libon, Albay as guest in “Regatta” activities during the opening of “Paroyan Festival” (Rice Festival).
Libon town is known as Albay’s “rice granary” where Zubiri’s mother hails from Fernandez clan, which prompted the local legislators to pen a resolution adopting the former Bukidnon senator as “Son of Albay”.
During his incumbency, Zubiri said he gave as much as P43 million of his Countrywide Development Fund, more than what he allocated for Bukidnon, by handing out P1 million each for every local government unit in the province of Albay, including P25 million for housing units of 2,500 families in Anislag, Daraga town where Zubiri Village is located.
Willing to come back as senator, Zubiri explained that he is supporting the Aquino administration and proposed to have a “high level bilateral talks” with China instead of relying on the US government and ASEAN stand regarding the Scarborough Shaol issues.
“I think it’s time for our government to beef up slowly our armed forces for our national security, not only from outside aggression, but including internal security wherein peaceful negotiations are necessary for Abu Sayyaf, New Peoples Army, MNLF”, Zubiri added.
In his desire to work again in the Senate, Zubiri expressed fear that he will be “politically harassed” as he is expecting that his name will be dragged in “elections sabotage” cases that would be filed even before the coming elections start. [BicolToday.com]
