Jeepney plunges down into cliff in Libon, Albay; 6 dead, 18 injured 

LIBON, Albay – Six (6) persons died and 18 more were injured among the thirty passengers inside a public jeepney which plunged into a deep ravine at Sitio Hulandig, Barangay San Jose, this town, at about 3:30 PM, Tuesday,May 21.

According to reports, the victims were teachers and parents who just finished their tasks under “Brigada Escuela” and were riding home.

The victims were rushed to Pantao District Hospital.

Jeepney driver Rolando Casin Olande of Barangay Caguscos, same town, was reported to have escape after the accident.

Police said the jeepney from Barangay Pantao was going to Centro Poblacion of Libon when the accident occurred.

Police theorized the jeepney lost its brakes when the driver was negotiating a curve that caused it plunging into the cliff.

Names of the fatalities and the injured were still not available as of press time.

Police are now on a manhunt for the driver who will face charges of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide and damage to properties. [BicolToday.com]
