State troops, NPAs, clash anew after election in Sorsogon

BULUSAN, Sorsogon Province – Renewed fighting occurred after the election in Sorsogon Province between state troops and rebel New People’s Army (NPA) with no reported casualties in both sides,but state troops managed to recover hammocks, improvised explosive devices (IEDs), electric wires, and personal belongings.

The fighting, which lasted about 15 minutes, happened about 7:15 Wednesday morning, May 15, (2019) at Sitio Capiricohan, Barangay San Isidro, this town.

According to Army reports, troops of Alpha Company, 31st Infantry Battalion, 1st Police Mobile Force Company, and 504 Regional Mobile Force Battalion, chanced upon a group of NPA men and opened fire, resulting to a firefight lasting about 15 minutes.

There were no casualties reported from both sides.

As of press time, there was no statement yet from the NPA side regarding the Bulusan encounter.

Reports said Army troops had recovered four IEDs, 300 meters of electric wire, 18 pieces of AA battery, 20 jungle hammocks, 15 ponchos and several personal belongings of rebels.
