JUBAN, Sorsogon – Seven fishermen, using air compressor, were arrested by authorities for illegal fishing off the coast of Juban, Sorsogon.
According to police, on Friday, May 17 (2019) at around 11:30 PM, seven (7) fishermen were arrested for illegal fishing at the offshore of Brgy. Biriran, Juban, Sorsogon.
The violators were identified as Roel Labayandoy Buenaobra, 43 yrs old and a resident of Brgy Sampaloc, Sorsogon City; Jonathan Ducay Aurelio, 27 yrs old and a resident of Brgy. Cagbolo, Magallanes, Sorsogon; Roberto Fernandez Javier, 46 yrs old and a resident of Brgy. Bitan-o, Sorsogon City; Ducay Afable Bulan, 48 yrs old and a resident of Brgy. Bitan-o, Sorsogon City; Mario Gesoro Andes, 39 yrs old and a resident of Brgy. Bitan-o, Sorsogon City; Ivan Buhayan Isanan, 38 yrs old and resident of Placer, Masbate; and, Cesar Deblois Magante Jr, 44 yrs old and a resident of Brgy. Bitan-o, Sorsogon City.
According to Police Major Pedro R. Jimenez, Juban police chief, on the said date and time of incident, combined personnel of Juban police led by PCpl Arnel Hapita and Bantay Dagat led by Miguel Gratuito, Chairman of MFARMC, conducted an operation about the said illegal activity which resulted to the arrest of the suspects.
The suspects were caught in the act gathering underwater shellfish known as “BADOY” with the use of air compressor which is prohibited under Municipal Ordinance Nr 01 series of 2001 sec 11. Confiscated fishing paraphernalia such as motor boat, anchor, hose, motor engine, cross joint and air compressor were brought to the custody of Juban MFARMC for proper disposition.
Arrested persons were duly informed of the nature of their arrest, conducted booking procedures for proper documentation and after which they were turned over to Bantay Dagat and MFARMC for proper disposition of the case. [BicolToday.com]
