“Bakasyonista” kid drowns on Christmas day in Sorsogon

STA. MAGDALENA, Sorsogon — “Bakasyonista” kid Lawrence Noah M. Garillo, 9 years old, of Taytay, Rizal, was swimming at a beach in this town, despite his mother’s prohibition, when he drowned at about 8:30 AM, on Christmas Day, December 25. His cousin/companion Andrei was saved and survived from drowning.

Police investigators, in their initial report, said the incident happened at the territorial seawater of Brgy. 1, Poblacion, Sta. Magdalena, Sorsogon.

Drowning victim Lawrence Noah M. Gabrillo, 9 years old, was a Grade 4 student and a resident of Brgy. San Lorenzo, Phase 1, Taytay, Rizal

A brief narrative police report said “Initial investigation disclosed that the victim’s family is on vacation at said municipality and at about 8:00 AM of December 25, 2018, the victim asked permission to his mother named Girlie Gabrillo that he will swim together with his cousin Andrei Gabrillo on the beach near the seawall of the aforesaid place.

However, their parents did not allow them to go swimming because of the strong current of the sea.

As a result, the minors were accidentally drowned due to the strong stream of the sea. Both were recovered by a certain Benjamin Garbin and Ronaldo Formanes, of Brgy. 1, Poblacion. However, Lawrence Noah was already lifeless who was immediately rushed to Matnog Medicare Community Hospital for medical treatment but was pronounced dead on arrival by the attending physician, while Andrei Gabrillo was saved and survived from drowning.” [BicolToday.com]
