NPA blames “Duterte death squad” on killing of village official in Magallanes, Sorsogon

SORSOGON CITY — The New People’s Army- Celso Minguez Command (NPA-CMC) in this province denied that slain village official Arthur Dawis of Barangay Central, Magallanes, this province, was killed by an NPA hit team, and tossed the blame on the newly organized military death squad.
The NPA blamed the newly-organized Duterte death squad as the group which was responsible for the killing of Dawis.

A police report on Friday, December 21, said “at about 7:25 PM at Brgy. Central Magallanes, Sorsogon, a certain Arthur Dawis, 54 years old, married, Brgy Kagawad and a resident of Brgy Central, Magallanes, Sorsogon. was shot dead.

Police details said: “That around 7:25 PM of same date, a concerned citizen informed Magallanes MPS thru hotline number that a shooting incident transpired at the above said place of incident wherein the victim who was in front of his house was shot several times by unidentified malefactors with the used of unknown caliber. As a result, the victim sustained several gunshot wounds in the different parts of his body and was brought to Brgy Central Magallanes, Sorsogon for medical treatment however, was pronounced dead on arrival by the attending physician, while said suspects fled the place after the incident.”

Follow-up news later said the killing of Dawis was executed by the NPA, which prompted the rebels command here to issue a clarification and denial.

Samuel Guerrero, spokesperson of NPA-CMC, in a statement posted at the internet, said Dawis was killed by a military hit team.

The rebel spokesman said military hit teams are being organized to kill civilian supporters and NPA members, in response to Duterte’s call for death squads to be used against the NPA, its allied groups, and civilian supporters.
