₱25 wage increase ‘mumu lang’ – Colmenares

MANILA — Makabayan senatorial candidate Neri Colmenares today hit the supposed ₱25 wage increase being floated by the Employers Confederation of the Philippines (ECOP) saying that this is mere crumbs.

“Mumu lang talaga ang planong ibigay ng ECOP sa mga manggagawa habang sila ang matinding tinamaan ng TRAIN law at pagtaas ng presyo ng mga bilihin. The ₱25 wage hike being floated by ECOP would definitely not address the growing hunger and poverty being experienced by our people,” said the progressive leader.

“Based on the latest Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey about 13.3 percent or 3.1 million Filipino families experienced involuntary hunger in the past three months. This was 3.9 points higher than last June’s 9.4 percent, and the highest since December 2017, which had 15.9 percent,” he added.

“To somehow alleviate the price pressure being experienced by consumers a relatively substantial minimum wage is needed. It is imperative therefore that Duterte classify as urgent House Bill 7787 or the P750 national minimum wage bill and House Bill 7653 or the repeal of the anti-people provisions of the TRAIN law like the excise tax on oil,” ended Colmenares
