Mentally ill man found dead in Sorsogon

SORSOGON CITY – A man believed to be mentally incapacitated was found dead along a stretch of a highway at Brgy San Roque, Bacon District, Sorsogon City, Friday, October 12, 2018 at about 1:00AM.

Police Supt. Edison A. Dumangas, city police chief, identified the victim as Edrick Detera Lopez, 32 years old, single, a resident of Brgy Balete, Bacon District, this city, and allegedly suffering from mental incapacity.

Police initial investigation said that at around 12:40 AM of same date, Kevin D Fruto, of legal age, driver and a resident of Sitio Banao, Brgy Salvacion, Bacon District, this city, while driving his motorcycle on his way home, suddenly saw a bloody man clad with a camouflage pants, maroon t shirt and brown cap, with pellet gun tucked at the side of his waist, lying on the cemented road.

Fruto immediately sought assistance from residents to bring the victim to Sorsogon Provincial Hospital, where the victim was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

Meanwhile, according to nearby residents, they heard successive gunshots a few minutes before the discovery of the said victim.

Recovered from the crime scene were six (6) fired cartridge cases and one (1) bullet intended for cal .45 which will be submitted to SPCLO SOCO, Sorsogon City for ballistic examination.

The cadaver was brought to San Antonio Funeral Homes, Brgy Talisay, Sorsogon City for autopsy examination. Sorsogon CPS personnel immediately conducted hot pursuit operation and established checkpoints for possible identification and apprehension of the fleeing unidentified suspect/s. [BicolToday.com]
