Campus writers “to move on” fight against Marcos “mimic”, defy Marcos family call “to forget, move on”

CITY OF NAGA, Bicol Region – Contrary to Ilocos Governor Imee Marcos’ statement for the “nation to forget and move on” in response to the death anniversary of Ninoy Aquino on August 21, young campus journalists have vowed to “move on” in its struggle against a Marcos “mimic and dictator-wannabe
President Duterte”.

“Forgetting is painful and moving on is not as easy, contrary to Ilocos Governor Imee Marcos’ statement,” said the College Editors Guild of the Philippines (CEGP), in a statement sent to BicolToday.com in Naga City.

Jose Mari Callueng, national president, said CEGP will never forget the atrocities by the Marcos family to the courageous, selfless and militant Guilders and revolutionaries who had offered their ultimate sacrifice in the struggle for freedom and democracy under her father’s (Marcos) murderous regime.

He said CEGP will continuously remind Imee and her family about Liliosa Hilao, Lorena Barros, Eman Lacaba, and all the martyrs killed in the fighting for national liberation under Martial Law.

“The Guild will never move on from the then US-Marcos regime’s attempt to stifle the militancy of the campus press and the Filipino youth by closing all student newspapers and banning CEGP for fearlessly exposing the ills of Philippine society,” Callueng said.

CEGP vows: “As the US-Duterte regime attempts to mimic a fascist dictatorship a la Marcos, the Filipino youth will continue to stand up against an oppressive tyrannical rule-ridden with bogus tax reforms, continuing contractualization, landlessness, militarization, Oplan Tokhang, Oplan Tambay, Martial Law in Mindanao, attacks against press freedom, continued commercialization of education and other anti-people policies.”

As CEGP marks its 87th year of existence, the Guild would like to remind Imee that the Guild has played a crucial role in overthrowing her father. Under dictator wannabe Duterte, we will not hesitate to rally hundreds of thousands of students and the youth to oust a tyrannical and corrupt regime once again. [BicolToday.com]
