4 Masbate cops injured in NPA landmine explosion

MASBATE CITY (BicolToday.com) — Four policemen were injured Friday morning, August 24, when an improvised explosive device (IED) blasted the utility vehicle they were riding on along a section of the highway of Biyong village, Masbate City.

According to a spot report from the PNP Police Regional Office 5, Camp B/General Simeon A. Ola, in Legazpi City, “while surveying the area on-board a utility vehicle of the Local Government Unit of Masbate to attend a symposium of Capitolina Ogaya Legazpi Memorial High School (COLMHS) Quadrangle, they were ‘blasted’ by an improvised explosive device (IED), believed planted by the New People’s Army (NPA).”

Injured were four (4) policemen: SPO2 Ariel Espiel y Lupango, PO2 Leo Michael Azares, PO2 Melmar Rapsing and PO2 Rosalito Apoya II.

The injured were rushed immediately to the Masbate Doctor’s Hospital for medical treatment.

Recovered in the ambush site was a cut piece of 2-inch steel bar and empty fired cartridge casing for M16 rifle.

Meantime, there was no press statement coming from the NPA Jose Rapsing Command if it has knowledge over the ambush. [BicolToday.com]
