Sison challenges Duterte government: Open the peace documents for the Press and the Public have the right to know

LEGAZPI CITY — Professor Jose Maria Sison, NDFP chief political consultant, challenged the Government of the Republic of the Philippines (GRP) to make public the contents of the Stand Down Agreement that was signed on June 9, 2018 and the contents of the agreement signed on June 10 relating to the resumption of the formal peace talks on June 28-30.

“The press and the public have the right to know the content of the stand down the agreement that was signed on June 9, 2018, by GRP and NDFP negotiating panel chairmen DOLE secretary Silvestre Bello and Fidel Agcaoili and other GRP and NDFP representatives,” Sison urged.

“This agreement has been unilaterally scrapped by the GRP. And the press and public wish to know why. They also want to know the contents of agreements signed on June 10, 2018, pertinent to the June 28-30 resumption of formal peace talks and the interim peace agreement which have been unilaterally canceled by the GRP,” Sison said, in a follow-up statement sent Saturday to Bicol Today in Naga City.

According to him, all the aforementioned documents are of public interest and have become archival materials that are worthy of contemporary and historical study. Both or either of GRP and NDFP negotiating panels can share the documents with the press and public.

The Duterte Administration on Thursday canceled the scheduled unilateral ceasefire and the planned resumption of formal peace talks on June 28, causing frustration and disappointment among stakeholders in the peace effort. [BicolToday.com]
