₱30-M DENR-PENRO building breaks grounds

SORSOGON CITY (BicolToday.com) — The construction of a ₱30-M new 2-storey edifice of the DENR PENRO in barangay road, Balogo, this city, broke ground May 31 with Sen. Chiz Escudero, DENR Sec. Roy Cimatu, 1st District Rep, Evelina Escudero and DPWH 1st Dist Engr Ignacio T. Odiaman, among others, gracing the occasion.

Senator Chiz said no fence would be constructed so as to leave the impression that everybody is welcome to transact business, adding that the P30-M allocation includes office fixtures and equipment, lights and air-conditioning units.

The Senator also bared his plans:

1.Creation of a TASK FORCE on ENVIRONMENT led by the DENR and assisted by the AFP and PNP. He also appealed to LGUs for support.

2.Construction of SIX CLUSTERS SANITARY LANDFILL for proper waste disposal, sustainable and compliant to the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2003.

3. Construction of a COMMON BODEGA as the depository of old, dilapidated office equipment, chairs, tables, LTO/ DENR impounded vehicles, and other non-serviceable items.

Secretary Cimatu, on the other hand, said he was so impressed with the clean and wide highway from the boundary of Albay–Sorgogon to the city proper attributing its cleanliness to the culture of Sorsoganons of being clean in and outside the home.

Cimatu also expressed optimism on the proposal of a TF on Environment saying this is the first time such a laudable plan came out which may be replicated by other regions, possibly may even become the solution to the continued degradation of our environment.

Meanwhile, 1st Dist. Rep Evelina Escudero considered the new building a One-Stop-Shop which would ease transactions with the DENR, while Executive Assistant to the Governor Antonio Fuentes said Gov. Bobet Lee Rodrigueza has expressed his full support to environmental advocacy and is committed to provide assistance where may be necessary.

For his part, Atty Ronnel Sopsop, Sorsogon OIC DENR PENRO thanked the Senator for such a huge budget appropriation for an office, further saying that this is not the first time the Senator has supported their office when earlier the Senator has alloted P5-M for their satellite office in Pilar.

Also present were outgoing DENR Regional Director Oscar Dominguez, DENR Assistant Regional Director Atty. Antonio Abawag, 903rd Brigade Commander Brig. Gen. Greg P. Almelor, Sorsogon PNP Provincial Director S/Supt. Marlon C. Tejada, and other government officials. [By Bobot Estropigan Laguna, Contributor / BicolToday.com]
