LEGAZPI CITY — Bayan supports the passage of a National Minimum Wage to correct the long-standing wage disparity among regions.

In a statement, Bayan said they find no relief in Sec. Bello’s announcement of a wage hike in 30 days.

The convening of regional wage boards will not result to anything much for impoverished workers as wage boards are notorious for increasing wages by small increments, Bayan added.

The big capitalists are quick to predict doom for the economy every time there are efforts to secure a living wage for the workers.

They deny the positive effects of a wage hike in terms of increasing the purchasing power of the workers and stimulating economic activity.

Big businesses oppose wage hike because they do not want their profit margins affected in any way.

This is all the more unjust when many of them have already profited so much by maintaining a system of contractual labor where workers are condemned to a life of job insecurity, substandard wage levels with no social benefits, Bayan ended.  [BicolToday.com]
