LEGAZPI CITY (BicolToday.com) — “Changes in our Constitution would grant President Duterte new and very formidable powers”, said former Bayan Muna Rep. Neri Colmenares.
The progressive former legislator is the keynote speaker in the creation of an aggressive movement in Bicol that would oppose tyranny wherever & whenever it rears it’s ugly head.
Colmenares assailed the proposed Federalized Constitution by Duterte’s PDP-LABAN party as “self-serving” that incumbent members of the Senate and House representatives shall compose members of the Interim Parliament.
“All cabinet officials with portfolio are appointed by the President who will exercise oversight powers. This is very intimidating to all constitutional bodies and department agencies”, he warned.
The group coalition that invited Colmenares has mirrored Duterte’s pronouncements and actions as “unfolding into another despotic regime” experienced also during Marcos era.
“In the face of such blatant acts of tyranny, it is time to take a stand, speak out and act”, the group declared. [BicolToday.com]
