1 police combatant killed, 8 others injured in ambush by suspected NPA guerillas in Labo, Camarines Norte

DAET, Camarines Norte – Suspected New People’s Army (NPA) guerillas ambushed 2 police mobile cars in Labo, this province, and killed a police trooper and wounded 8 other police combatants at about 1 am Saturday morning, December 02.

The policemen are members of the Provincial Public Safety Company (PPSC) based in Labo.

According to reports, the policemen, all battle-ready, were going back to base after an operation in Barangay Bagong Silang, and while on their way to Daet, armed men ambushed them along Barangay Daguit.

P/Supt Ricky Camisola, Chief of Police of Labo-PNP, confirmed the report over radio interview at a local station.

Killed was PO2 Richard M. Abad, and the injured policemen are PO2 Ronald Gutierrez; PO2 Ericson De Vera; PO1 Jeffrey Tarrobago; PO1 Peter Valero; PO1 Romar Umandap; PO1 Johnson España, PO1 Mark Anthony Aguilar; and PO2 Rommel Orante.

In a separate radio interview, police officer SPO1 Sheralyn Samonte of Camarines Norte Provincial Police confirmed early Saturday morning about the ambush of ten policemen in two mobile cars in Barangay Daguit, Labo.

News about the ambush reached provincial headquarters an hour later, about 2 am, prompting S/Supt. Cerillo Trilles, provincial director, to launch rescue and pursuit operation, a travel time about an hour from Daet to Labo.

The injured policemen were brought to the hospital.

As of press time, combined police-Army units are in hot pursuit operations to engage the NPA guerillas. [BicolToday.com]
