SORSOGON CITY – Still reeling over from setbacks arising from Sandiganbayan’s conviction of former Governor Raul Lee in August, this year, key persons in Mayor Sally Lee camp have defected this week to join the line-up of Vice-Governor Ester Hamor for the Mayor post in the coming 2019 elections.

Vice-Governor Hamor, in a meeting with Senator Chiz Escudero on Saturday, November 25, laid down the groundwork for the big fight to unseat Mayor Sally.

Accompanying Hamor in the Escudero meeting at his house are her newly-formed party mates for 2019 elections, counting among them are several known allies of Lee, but were already dissatisfied of the Lee leadership and opted to join Hamor’s line-up for the 2019 big fight.

This latest development in the political playing field was first reported by Roland Anonuevo, former Board member, in his Facebook posting on November 26.

The open endorsement of Senator Escudero for Hamor is already a big sign that the unholy alliance between the Lees and the Escuderos for power-sharing in Sorsogon has started to crumble down, sending Lee supporters into panic.

Jovic Duran, Lee’s valuable political operator, was overheard pleading with an ally not “to abandon them” as the ally has severed his ties with the Lees to join Hamor’s line-up.

The power-packed team is headed by Vice-Governor Hamor for Mayor, while former Board Member Eric Dioneda for Vice-Mayor.

Hamor’s chosen councilors in the 3 Sorsogon districts are:

East: Incumbent councilors Atty. Joven Laura, Chuck Lubiano, Ellen Jamisola, and end-termer Board Member Eric Ravanilla.

West: Councilor Nestor Baldon, end-termer Board Member Vicky Aquino, Bitan-o Brgy. Captain Erwin Duana, and former Councilor Rogelio Jebulan.

Bacon District: Councilor Larry Dioneda, former Councilors Auŕelio Destacamento, Roque Divina and Bem Dioneda, daughter of late Sorsogon City Mayor Leovic Dioneda.

Hamor laid down her group’s vision, mission, and objectives before Senator Escudero, and their goal to unseat Lee.

Their urgent concern is to rationalize projects that will benefit the many, rather than benefit the few.

It was discussed during the Escudero meeting that Sorsogon shall start again with the first step in development and economic concerns and these will not happen if the Lees are in position.

The problem of infrastructures has caught their attention, taking note that Lee projects are in sad state, referring to a gymnasium without a toilet, and poorly-installed ventilation system and the amusing rotunda that looks like a birthday cake in front of Sorsogon National High School and Fatima Church.

In turn, Senator Chiz pledged his support for Hamor and her group.

Reflecting back into the past, it was clarified again the Escudero mission for the City conversion was to uplift the quality of life of Sorsoganons and to set-up facilities that will benefit the city people but, the infrastructures are still lacking.

Looking back, 16 years have passed since the City conversion initiated by the late Congressman Sonny “Tatay” Escudero to beef up its much-needed Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA) to fund Sorsogon’s various projects, the move for cityhood then was opposed by the Lee family.

When converted into a City, the Lees hastily fielded Sally Lee for Mayor, thereby grabbing control of the new city from the Escuderos until the present.

Meanwhile, BicolToday.com source said, upon learning the gathering of Hamor’s group in Senator Chiz residence, Jovic Duran, Lee’s political operator ask one of the attendees not to abandon them.

The source, who requested anonymity, also said, that they are already disgusted how Duran runs their party and manages the group.

Seven (7) members of Hamor’s party are allies of Lee, they are Councilors Chuck Lubiano, Ellen Jamisola, Nestor Baldon, board members Eric Ravanilla, Rebecca Aquino, former city councilors Roque Divina and Rogelio Jebulan.

Recalling back a serious incident, Duran had verbally abused barangay officials for making known their intentions to support Vice Governor Hamor’s bid for city mayor.

Various controversies had rocked the Lee family. Last August 18, 2017, the Sandiganbayan convicted former Sorsogon Governor Raul Lee from six to ten years imprisonment for each count of graft involvement in the P728-million fertilizer fund scam.

The Sandiganbayan First Division handed down its decision, convicting Lee of four counts of graft in the purchase of overpriced fertilizers worth P3.2 million.

The Court also ordered Lee to pay the government total damages of P2,591,595.
