A respite from the road: BRAVO TODA Cup 2017

SORSOGON CITY, 7Nov2017 (BicolToday.com) – The Federation of Tricycle Operators and Drivers Association (FASTOD, Inc.) in this city were given a respite from their daily grind in the road when nineteen of the associate members joined the BRAVO TODA Cup 2017 sports events to last until December 2, 2017.

According to Jose Alimoot, federation president, this is the first time that they were given the chance to have their own sportfest, not only basketball, also included is the thinking man game, chess and “dama.”  Chess and “dama” are often played by tricycle drivers in their respective terminals while waiting for dispatch. We have many good players of this game, he added. What is good about this is the change of routine among us, “ yesterday it was the road, today onward, it will be the gymnasium.” He said that the Bravo TODA Cup 2017 participating teams were given free uniforms and no entry fee were collected making it easier for associate TODA members to participate.

The event was sponsored by Congressman Anthony Bravo, a COOP Natcco Partylist representative which was fully supported by his congressional friends. Also the LKY Group of Companies, QDC Construction and Supply and Zen Bravo Supplies and Marketing Corporation are among the corporate sponsors. Bravo thanked Sorsogon  governor Robert Lee Rodrigueza, and the Samahan Basketbol ng Pilipinas.

In his message, the congressman said that TODA are backbone of transport in their locality, “you serve the public rain or shine with dedication, perhaps, only your family care for your public services, I am one who appreciate your tenacity of service.”

The main game is basketball which was under care by Samahan Basketbol ng Pilipinas, Sorsogon Chapter and it was honoured by FIBA Commisioner Eron Paraon who was present at the opening. Also the muse of the muses Denise Cornejo grace the event and took center stage for the ceremonial jumpball.

The organizer said that series of meetings with the coaches and team managers for them to understand the FIBA rules were held and only members of good standing of the associate TODA’s are allowed to play in the game. The list of members were submitted to the screening committee according to Manuel Detera, an official of FASTOD. No age limit as long as you are a member of an association and holder of a valid professional drivers license.

Noticeable during the opening are the presence of family members of the players who eagerly waits for their love ones to play the brand of local “basketbol”, they are the cheerer’s of their teams. [BicolToday.com]
