PAGBILAO QUEZON – Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP) condemned the blocking of the protest caravan of farmers from Bicol bound for Manila by the Provincial Public Safety Company 6th Maneuver Platoon of the Philippine National Police (PNP).

The convoy of farmers onboard 28 buses was flagged down at around 7:30PM this evening by Quezon PNP led by a certain Major Morillo in Barangay Talipan, Pagbilao in Quezon province. Among those in the convoy is the vehicle of Anakpawis Rep. Ariel Casilao who joined the peasant caravan from Bicol to Manila.

As of writing, the caravan of farmers is still in Pagbilao. They are bound for Calamba in Laguna tomorrow. They will join the farmers from Mindanao at the protest camp-out at DAR and in protest rally at Mendiola on October 25.

“This is a clear attempt to derail the nationwide protest caravan of farmers. But we will not be cowered, Will,” said Bert Author, chairperson of Kilusang Magbubukid ng Bicol (KMB-KMP).

Some 2,000 small coconut farmers and peasants from six Bicol provinces will troop to the National Capital Region for the national peasant caravan dubbed as #LakbayMagsasaka.

They will raise the most urgent issues of farmers including the demand for genuine land reform, return of the multi-billion coco levy fund, militarization, among other concerns.
