SORSOGON CITY – A grenade blast late Tuesday night rattled Camp Fabilane in Balogo, Sorsogon City, but another grenade thrown at Camp Escudero PNP Provincial Command failed to explode.

Chief Inspector Edison A. Dumangas, acting police chief, said the two grenade-throwing incidents were done by men riding-in-tandem on a SYM motorcycle at about 10:30 pm Tuesday night.

A police team was immediately organized to track down the suspects.

There was no serious damage nor injured at Camp Fabilane.

According to Dumangas, the grenade throwers were suspected to be members of the New People’s Army (NPA) who are seeking revenge or retaliation after learning that Andres “Ka Magno” Hubilla with another NPA escort were killed during a military operation at the village of Trece Martires, Casiguran.

Hubilla was a high – ranking member of the underground Communist party and the NPA Celso Minguez Command in Sorsogon Province.

An independent probe by the NPA revealed that Hubilla and red fighter “Ka Billy” Himor were captured, then executed immediately by apprehending troops. Their death was attributed to an alleged “clash” between Army and NPA troops. []
