IRIGA CITY, Camarines Sur – A housemaid died Friday night after getting cut down by shrapnel from an exploding rifle grenade inside a private residence at Barangay San Isidro, this city.

Her “amo” employer, who toyed with the rifle grenade, lost his hand during the explosion and survived, sustaining injuries when rushed to the Bicol Medical Center in Naga City, some 37 kilometers distant.

According to police investigators, the rifle grenade was believed to be M-79, and that homeowner Roy Tino, age 48, the alleged grenade owner, tapped the projectile on the table, believing it would not explode.

The explosion ripped open the sides of the kitchen room, engulfing housemaid Marites Capiña, age 36, who died instantly.

Police conducted post-blast investigation and has not yet determined on how Tino had gotten hold of the rifle grenade in his possession and where it came from.

Police were still investigating over the week. []
