AFP, NPA clash in Magallanes, Sorsogon; no casualty reported

SORSOGON CITY (BicolToday.com) – Government forces on Sunday morning (June 4), checking the presence of NPA armed men in a barangay at Magallanes town, chanced upon a rebel group of about 15 fighters and engaged them in a firefight.

The clash happened at around 11:30 o’clock Sunday morning at Barangay Pili, Magallanes .

There were no reports of casualties on both sides.

According to police report, before the firefight, 2LT Bancud of 31st IB, PA, based at Barangay. Añog, Juban, MIG, MICO, COLT and SPPSC personnel had coordinated with PSInsp Edwin Balana Apun, acting police chief, that at around 10:00 o`clock that Sunday morning, the soldiers conducted validation on the gathered information regarding the sighting of armed men at Barangay Pili.

Upon arriving at the place, they were able to engage and had a firefight with the NPA group that lasted for
about ten (10) minutes.

After the clash, the armed men ran towards the direction of Brgy. Pili and Bulala boundary, and were pursued by the soldiers.

The team were able to recover at the encounter site subversive documents and military uniforms.

Preemptive checkpoint at Barangay Sta. Elena, was established to serve as the blocking force, against evading NPA fighters.

Other AFP troops coming from 31st IB still were conducting hot pursuit operations and Barangay intelligence network (BINs) were already activated in the area for possible tracking of fleeing armed men, reported the police. [BicolToday.com]
