CASIGURAN, Sorsogon (BicolToday.com) — Amid thunderous applause reverberating in jampacked six thousand – seating capacity Casiguran gymnasium, vice governor Ester Hamor, on her birthday today, April 17, formally announced her candidacy for Sorsogon City mayor in May 2019 polls.
Elegantly dressed in red, the soft spoken former 3-term mayor of this 4th class town, as in her previous political undertakings, humbly asked the permission of her allies, in her quest for the city’s top plum which they resoundly approved viva voce, shouting YES to city mayorship.
A workaholic but approachable lady chief executive whose heart bleeds for the poor and the downtrodden, the very good Ester Hamor, as she is fondly referred to, during her nine years in office as this town’s mayor, succeeding her husband, Edwin, brought unprecedented honors to this town, duly recognized by DILG such as the award for the best in local governance, DOH nutrition awardee, clean and green recognition, and a litany of other awards and recognitions worthy to emulate, eclipsing even that of her predecessor husband Edwin.
Meanwhile, incumbent mayor Edwin ‘Boboy’ Hamor in his brief remarks bluntly told the crowd, in Tagalog parlance, “laban kun laban, walang urungan” (fight for a fight, no retreat).
Later, he revealed city consultant Jovic Duran’s tirades, bordering on personal virulent attacks on him and his wife, vice governor Ester, triggered it all. Cornered, they could not do otherwise but declare a gallant fight for the city’s mayorship, the incumbent Casiguran mayor concluded.
Barring any changes of plan, vice governor Ester is up for a tough fight against reelectionist mayor and former governor Sally Ante-Lee who has also chalked up to her credit various local and national awards. [BicolToday.com]
