Sorsogon CIDG scored by local media over Lasay arrest

By Felix ‘Boy’ Espineda, Jr.

SORSOGON CITY, 13March2017 (BicolToday.com) – The local media here are up against the shabby treatment received from Sorsogon CIDG after they were refused access to the booking procedure of Redentor Lasay accused for two counts of libel and subject of a warrant of arrest issued by Judge Refobar Gerona of Sorsogon RTC Branch 53 whom they nab along Burgos Street here around 9:35 in the morning yesterday.

Mediaman Anthony Laguna and Sagitgit Lopez who tried to witness the proceedings were denied access. They were told that only family members of the accuse may witness the finger printing and the taking of the mugshot.

They said such is clear that they have given Lasay a special treatment contrary to the usual practice that it can be witness publicly as proof of the mug shot of Janet Lim-Napoles which were widely covered by the media and other personalities of national importance.

According to National Union of Journalist of the Philippines Sorsogon Chapter past president Angel Ayala the action of CIDG here is tantamount of denial of freedom of the press and the right of the public to know. It was a display of pressure from the patrons of the accused, he added. [BicolToday.com]
