Local journalist gunned down in Masbate

MASBATE CITY, 13March2017 (BicolToday.com) – Columnist of a national tabloid Remate was shot to death by 2 unidentified gunmen riding-in-tandem in Brgy. Bacolod, Milagros, Masbate this morning.

Joaquin “DosporDos” Briones, Jr., also a former radio commentator of a local station in Masbate, suffered four gun shots at his back.

According to the family, the incident happened when Briones was driving his motorbike and the suspects were riding in red XRM motorcycle.

He was the fourth Masbate journalist murdered since 2003.

Other Masbate journalists killed were Miguelito Rueras on June 2, 2013 and Nelson Nedura on December 2, 2003.

Briones is the second journalist killed under the Duterte administration both of whom are from the Bicol Region according to NUJP-IFJ Media Safety Office. Larry Que, publisher of local paper Catanduanes News Now, was shot by an unidentified gunman December 20, 2016. [BicolToday.com]
