Florencia passenger bus crashes into Tigaon bridge railings, many injured

TIGAON, Camarines Sur, 28Feb2017 (BicolToday.com) – A Florencia passenger bus, cruising near a bridge almost plunged into the river after its driver lost control over the steering wheel, causing panicky passengers leaping out from the bus.

The accident happened 7:30 am, Tuesday, February 28,  near the boundary of Barangays Panagan and Salvacion, this town, while the bus, from Naga City bound for Lagonoy, was negotiating a  right downhill blind curve and brushed the bridge railings, forcing the bus to turn 90 degrees and a part of its body protruded over Ocine river. 

Police Chief Inspector Ariel Pregonero Blanco, Tigaon police chief, immediately dispatched a team upon learning about the accident.
 
Many passengers were injured, but police investigators led by PO2 Alberto Mendoza Bernales identified some of the victims as Jeanette Aquino, 26 years old, of Poblacion, Ocampo; Maria Corazon Maranan, single of legal age, Tigaon; Eurelyn Nacional, 33, of San Agustin, Pili; and Eric Villete, 37. of Sta. Maria, Lagonoy.
 
According to SPO4 Jaime Enciso of Investigation Section, many of the victims, although some injured, were unidentified by police as they left in a hurry to meet their appointments and work.
 
Police took into custody Forencia bus driver, Aristo Nipa Casaul, 61, of Barangay Salvacion, Tigaon. The bus is identified with body number 5508 and plate number EVT 639.
 
Several accidents had occurred in the area as it is an uphill/downhill blind curve.
