SORSOGON CITY, 17Feb2014 (BicolToday.com) – A day after Valentines day when the main building of the historical Sorsogon National High School (formerly Sorsogon Provincial High School) was eaten up by fire. Accordingly, the historical edifice was noticed on fire at around 2 o’clock in the morning. Local Fire Fighters responded, but the fire was so swift, consuming the building in a minute.

The people of Sorsogon City were saddened by this catastrophe, especially those who are graduating this year (the fourth year students) because they are the ones who occupy this building.

Sorsogon National High School has served as a historical landmark, not only in the City of Sorsogon but, as to the Province as well. SNHS main building was a hundred-year old edifice and it became the alma mater of so many great Sorsogoñeos who excelled in the field of politics, business, entertainment, science and others.

It was built during the administration of the first Civil Governor of Sorsogon, Governor Bernardino Monreal. It was through his effort that this building, the Sorsogon Provincial High School was built sometime in the 1900″s. Since then, this building became the landmark of the Province.

In 1941, the Japanese Imperial Army burned this edifice, and it was only restored during liberation time. Since then, SNHS has continued to make history among her graduates until it was ablaze this morning.

As a citizen of this Province, i was saddened too by the fate of this historical landmark. As of the moment, investigation has been in progress to know what was the cause of this fire.

Calling all graduates, alumni of Sorsogon Provincial High School (Sorsogon National High School) in every part of the world, this is now your time to lend a hand and help your Alma Mater to stand up again. Make a difference, SNHS needs you.

To the Legislator of this Province, or to those who will be in-charge of rebuilding the “HI-SKUL”…since this is a historical landmark, I suggest to build again a replica of the original building. I propose that the design of the new SNHS will be the same of the original building. Doing so will continue the heritage and the historical value of the edifice. [BicolToday.com]
